PRIVACY POLICY
How ShipCrew handles your data
Last updated:
ShipCrew.network (“ShipCrew”, “we”) is a launch and distribution network for indie founders. This policy explains what personal data we handle, why, who helps us and what you can do about it. It covers only what is live today. If anything is unclear, write to office@shipcrew.network.
Who is responsible
The controller of your personal data is Marcin Jezierski, a private individual based in Poland who runs ShipCrew until a company is set up. Contact: office@shipcrew.network.
What we collect and why
Your account
When you sign up with email, we store your email address. Your password goes from your browser straight to our sign-in provider (Supabase), which stores only a protected version of it. We never see it. If you choose “Continue with Google” or “Continue with GitHub”, that provider shares your email address and basic account details (which can include your name and profile picture link) with our sign-in provider as part of your sign-in record. ShipCrew’s own records store only your email address, and we do not show your provider name or photo anywhere.
Why: to run your account and sign you in.
Your founder profile
If you create one, we store what you enter: username, display name, bio, role, website, social links, what you build and what you are looking for, tools and languages. A moderator reviews your profile before it can appear publicly. Only approved profiles that you choose to make public are shown to everyone.
Why: to show you in the founder network the way you choose.
Your location
You choose how much location to share:
- Hidden: nothing is published.
- Country only: only your country is published.
- Nearest major city: only the city label and map point you provide are published.
- Exact city: your city and the exact coordinates you enter are published on the Founder Map. Do not enter coordinates you do not want to be public.
Your private region, city and coordinates are visible to you and to our moderators for review. They are shown publicly only if your chosen option publishes them.
Your product listings
When you submit a product to the catalog, we store its name, website, tagline, description, launch ask, category and language. Moderators review every submission, and only approved listings are public. Your name appears on a listing only if your founder profile is approved and public.
Moderation records
When a moderator reviews a profile, a listing or a local expert profile, we keep a record of the decision, any feedback sent to you and internal moderator notes that are not shown to you. These records are protected against later edits so the review history stays trustworthy.
Why: to keep the network safe and moderation decisions accountable (our legitimate interest).
Founding Crew
If you hold or are waiting for one of the first 100 Founding Crew seats, we record your seat status and the related dates. We do not publish who holds a seat or how many seats are left.
Local expert profiles
If you offer local market help, we store your headline, summary, markets, languages, availability and any evidence you add. Approved profiles show only the evidence you mark as public.
Founder HQ tracked links
Founders can create tracked links. When someone clicks one, the click passes through shipcrew.network and we store the referring page, a hashed version of the browser’s user agent, campaign (UTM) tags and the time. We do not store IP addresses with these clicks. The founder who owns the link can see the click statistics.
Email updates (newsletter)
If you subscribe, we store your email address, your first name (asked on the main sign-up form), where you signed up and when you gave consent. We pass your email address and first name to Brevo, which sends you a confirmation email. You only receive updates after you confirm, and every update email lets you unsubscribe.
Why: you asked for it (your consent), and you can withdraw it at any time.
Email tracking
Our email provider, Brevo, records whether account emails (such as sign-up confirmation and password reset) and email updates are opened and which links are clicked. Links in those emails pass through Brevo’s link-tracking address. We use this only to check that emails are delivered.
ShipBar
ShipBar is in early development and paid delivery is not live. When a website embeds ShipBar, we record which placement was shown or clicked using a random, per page view session ID, stored only as a keyed hash. ShipBar sets no cookies, uses no browser storage and does not read visitors’ IP addresses.
Technical logs
Our hosting and database providers keep technical logs (for example request times, errors and IP addresses) to run and secure the service. We do not use these logs for marketing.
What we do not do
- No advertising trackers, analytics scripts or tracking cookies on this website.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We never post anything on your behalf.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. They are set by our sign-in provider, Supabase. We use no analytics or marketing cookies, which is why there is no cookie banner. If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent first.
Who helps us
These providers process personal data for us under their data processing terms:
Supabase
Database and sign-in (accounts, profiles, listings, newsletter sign-ups).
WHERE: European Union (Frankfurt, Germany).
Vercel
Website hosting and the server functions that handle your requests.
WHERE: United States (US East region).
Brevo
Account emails (sign-up confirmation, password reset) and the email updates you subscribe to, including the double opt-in confirmation. Brevo records email opens and link clicks (see “Email tracking” above).
WHERE: As set out in Brevo’s data processing terms.
Hostinger
Our mailbox provider: receives the emails you send to office@shipcrew.network.
WHERE: As set out in Hostinger’s data processing terms.
Google and GitHub
Only if you choose “Continue with Google” or “Continue with GitHub”. They confirm your identity under their own privacy policies.
WHERE: United States and other locations they operate in.
MapLibre demo map server (demotiles.maplibre.org)
Map background on the Founder Map page. Your browser connects to it directly, so it receives your IP address and browser details.
WHERE: Operated by a third party outside our control.
Transfers outside the EU
Our server functions run on Vercel in the United States, so the data in your requests (for example your email address when you sign up or subscribe) is processed outside the EU/EEA. Google and GitHub sign-in are also US services. For these transfers we rely on the safeguards in the providers’ data processing terms, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep data
- Account and profile data (account, founder profile, listings, local expert profile, Founder HQ): while your account exists. After you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymise it within 30 days.
- Email updates: until you unsubscribe. Unsubscribing is recorded by Brevo; we then remove the copy in our own database by hand. You can also ask us to do it straight away.
- Click and event statistics (tracked links, ShipBar): up to 24 months. Clean-up is currently a manual process, not an automatic one.
- Technical logs: for as long as each hosting provider keeps them under its own retention settings.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data (access and portability);
- correct it;
- delete it;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- stop using it where you gave consent (for example, by unsubscribing from email updates).
You can edit most of your profile yourself in Founder HQ. Everything else is handled by hand: write to office@shipcrew.network from the email address of your account. We answer within one month. There is no “delete my account” button yet. We delete or anonymise your account within 30 days of your request.
You also have the right to complain to the Polish data protection authority, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych, uodo.gov.pl), or to the authority where you live.
Minimum age
ShipCrew is for founders and builders aged 16 or older.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change significantly affects how we use your data, we will tell you before it applies.
